Hula Valley Bird Festival - Israel 2006 5-11 November

News from the Swamp

30.3.06

The last week or so was very productive on all 'fronts'; Together with the many usual birds for the season, our ringing team caught a Romanian Reed Warbler, and added Sedge and Orphean Warblers to this year list as well as the first Lesser Whitethroats. A visiting photographer managed to get us some great shots of a male Black Francolin calling his heart (always a good species to photograph.)
Other than these, huge flocks (many thousands) of White Stork and Lesser Spotted Eagle were passing the all week through the Hula Valley and with them also
many Steppe Eagles and Steppe Buzzards. Three species of Crakes (Spotted, Little and Baillon's) were reported during the last week, Spotted being the most common one. Purple Herons are also back in the Valley
and together with them a very tamed Osprey is being spotted regularly around the lake.

Our Golan Survey team enjoyed a very fruitful week, with many flocks of White Storks, Lesser Spotted and Steppe Eagles, Cranes and many migrating Warblers jumping around in the bushes, where beautiful Woodchat Shrikes are getting into ther territories.

Hope to get some more good records soon, keep check
this site for more updates,
