News from the Swamp

It is already the end of October and birds keep on coming; Around 10,000 Common Cranes and some 6,000 Great White Pelicans have passed already the Valley. About the same number of Cranes is still in the Hula Valley and many more of them and of the Pelicans should soon pass by.
With the increase in the numbers of Cranes, it is high-time for us to search for ringed birds. one single bird was found today. This individual was ringed in the Hula, more details will follow soon.  Raptors also keep on moving with small groups of
Steppe Buzzards, joined by few Lesser Spotted and Spotted Eagles, Booted Eagles and all 4 species of Harriers. 1 dark morph Marsh Harrier was hunting in a field north of the lake today.

Many Black Kites, Common Cranes, Common Teals, Armenian Gulls can be seen all over and many Bleuthroats are also around. High numbers of Black-tailed Godwits joined by Avocets and Ruffs are very visible in the water.

In the fields around the lake, some Calandra Lark flocks were seen recently, and the first Skylarks arrived this week.

A single male Siberian Stonechat (Saxicola (t) maura) was seen today and few Bitterns are present already.

Stay tuned for more updates
